There is always the danger of over-restoring this car, and that might be what this is, but having the body panels and the doors all blended and on the same plane is too nice of an effect not to do this.
General Motors did not do this, but in the days of computer-designed cars even a Toyota Corolla has nearly perfect lines. It's something that everyone has gotten used to seeing, so if this car has stock gaps it's going to look awful.
