CAD

The left headlight assembly was dug out of storage and offered up to the car, but there was already the expectation that it would fit up poorly. There were no surprises there. The gap is terrible, a product of repairs made to the hood surround after a collision long ago.

To assist in making corrections without having to use the fragile and heavy headlight assemblies themselves to check the gap, we'll be doing some CAD work - cardboard-aided design - to make a template of the shape of the headlight door. This will be placed in the opening to allow it to be adjusted to fit.

Each of these has several hundred dollars in rare parts in them, so avoiding lifting them up and down and risking dropping them is probably a good idea. With the nose support out of the car, it's also impossible to bolt these in. Holding them still enough to take measurements is impossible, so having a template will work better.
