Smooth

In order to blend in the repaired section of the hood surround, a thin layer of filler is used over much of the area. It's so much easier to get a smooth, even surface when one material is sanded rather than a patchwork of fiberglass and filler.

Since the repair sections are hand-laid rather than press-molded fiberglass, there are air bubbles to contend with. Skimming the panel with a very thin layer of filler is the best way to deal with this.

The right side of the hood surround is nearly done with the first step of this process and it's looking really good.
