There's a starter in here somewhere

Two rebuild kits for a 10MT Delco starter yields a surprisingly diverse set of parts with very little duplication between them. The 'master kit' is oddly the least helpful while the smaller kit seems to have nearly everything needed. Yet, if there is a lesson learned from this process, it's to buy both because there will be something essential in both kits and mixing and matching parts between the two kits will be the way to go.

The difficulty now is getting the four machine screws out that hold the field coils in place. Heat, penetrating oil and time might get them out, but there's always the expectation of having to drill them out. Sadly, the replacement screws do not look the same.

They lack the concentric circles on the heads so new ones will have to be tracked down. Without them, any person the lest bit familiar with GM engines will spot the wrong machine screws.
