Marketing

Zip Corvette sent a marketing email recently - something that would normally be ignored - offering a link to step-by-step instruction for rebuilding a GM water pump and a special on the kit of parts to complete the job. What perfect timing.

The water pump for this car was next on the list - actually one of the last parts that are laying around waiting for its turn to be restored. It's the original pump, so it was a goal to have it rebuilt and not replaced. NAPA offers a program for automotive restorers that allows original parts to be rebuilt and then returned, which sounded like a good option. Yet, it's always preference to do the work instead of paying someone to do it whenever possible. So this pump has been sitting on the workbench for a couple of years now waiting for the opportunity to complete the job here.

A kit was ordered and the initial work was started today thanks to the guidance from the handy instructions. The fan hub was pressed off with a harmonic balancer puller before the main shaft and bearing were pressed out with a hydraulic press.

Once the kit arrives, this will be media blasted, reassembled and primed. In the mean time, the fan hub will be media blasted, polished and electroplated.
