Mystery

This cable connects two bows of the soft top frame and at first appeared to be something that wasn't original. A little digging reveals that it is a factory part, though it wasn't used on all of the convertible tops.

The convertible tops for these cars were provided to GM by a subsidiary and arrived at the assembly plant in St. Louis fully assembled with the soft tops already attached. In the assembly manual, these are listed under one part number and do not have any detailed drawings that would explain their assembly, so photographs of NOS tops are the only clues to figuring out how this was put together.

It was media-blasted, polished and electroplated, making it look brand new. The cable will be given its rubber coating again later.

These really distinctive truss sheet metal screws were restored, but the hope is that new ones that have the same shoulders can be found because they are pitted.
