Never to be seen again

The release mechanism for the seat back is electroplated and riveted back onto the assembly. The release button is in place and this is ready to be attached to the seat back. It looks great, but this might be the last time it's ever seen again. It's covered by the seat foam and seat cover making this sort of effort seem really silly.

The mechanism was very rusty and spent four days in muriatic acid. It was polished with a wire wheel and plated.

This release button is no longer available from GM. The aftermarket button is very nice, but the pin that keeps it from spinning is not offset correctly so it doesn't sit in the window squarely after it's installed. It's a small thing, but unfortunate nonetheless.
