Fiberboard

After purchasing an original storage tray that sits above the jack in the right storage compartment, it came in today.

These are fiberboard - moulded, compressed cardboard, really - and most did not survive after 50 years in the back of a car.

Finding one at all has been a challenge, but this one is whole and in very good condition.

There are a few wrinkles, a few tears and soft corners. Since it's basically cardboard, these are being addressed by soaking the defect in wood glue and then clamping it so it dries straight and laminated again.

The worst area is easily this one corner, but the same procedure should correct this damage and form the tray back to a square.

Next will be figuring out how to flock the inside again as it was from the factory.

The old flocking was sanded off leaving a surprisingly smooth starting point for the new layer of flocking.
