This is one of the two splash shields that fill between the fiberglass body and the frame as the frame sweeps in toward the engine. They are installed right behind the front wheels, so they take a beating.
The driver's side (above) was too rusted to save, but the passenger's side looks amazing after being restored.
Putting the two left-side ones side by side — the reproduction on the left and the original on the right — shows exactly what we're dealing with on this car.
