Tough repair

The spare tire tub is in pretty rotten shape. The cracks were drilled out to keep them from continuing while to pieces of wood were screwed together to pull the crack closed and make flat the two pieces of the tub.

A Roloc disc was used to feather around the crack and make room for the repair.

Three layers of fiberglass cloth were then bonded to the tub from the inside. Once this hardens the wood pieces will be removed and that portion of the crack will be repaired before moving on to work on smoothing out the crack on the outside.

This is of course the side of the tub in which the tire sits and isn't seen from outside the car so none of this will be seen unless the tub is removed.

The only other option is to find a NOS tub, but those can be in excess of $600 if you can find one.

They were normally not painted but left in natural black fiberglass, but that may not be something that can be done with this part. It's so damaged that it will probably have to be painted.
