NOS

Beneath the steering column is a trim piece the color of the interior and a bracket that contains bypass vacuum valves and a override switch for the headlights and the windshield wipers. The vacuum valves allow the headlights to be raised and the windshield wiper door to be opened while the switch turns on the wipers, all so new headlight bulbs or new wiper blades can be installed since both are hidden away when not being used.

Like everything else, it was rusty and the valves and switches did not work. After blasting and painting the bracket, refurbished hardware and a NOS switch were installed. The switch knob is missing the shiny center trim, so a new one will have to be ordered.

The valves are still manufactured in the aftermarket as replacement items. Two of those will be ordered soon and the trim piece will follow.
