The steering coupling - commonly called the rag joint - gives a little relief from road vibrations to the steering column and the driver by using a disc of rubber.
The parts were media blasted and Parkerized as the were originally. This will be reassembled with a few new parts once they come in.
It should look really nice when it is put together.
