After some tomfoolery, a new license plate lamp came in today. The original GM part is long discontinued and there don't seem to be any NOS units available, so this knockoff will have to do. The lens does not have the DOT information on it and the bulb is a Chinese-made bulb, so neither of those parts will do.
The lens is still reproduced by GM, so one of those will be purchased next.
An original, functional light bulb was hiding in the lamp that came on the car. The original self-tapping screws from that lamp were restored since the ones that came with this knockoff were the modern Phillips/straight hybrid design and clearly incorrect.
With a little work and a bit more money, this will be ready to put aside for assembly.
