Alternator-ative plan
The alternator that I purchased finally came in today and boy is it a disappointment.
It's pretty rough.
After quite a bit of struggle to split it because of a lot of oxidation, the inside was finally visible.
Dirty parts aren't a big deal, this was all going to be replace anyway, but all the rust is concerning. That means this sat outside in the weather for quite a while.
The rear bearing is seized to the rear case and can't be removed. The stator is ruined as well.
The only thing usable is the front case, but that's what bears the part number and date.
Pairing that front case with the back case of the truck alternator (which is identical and unmarked) that was restored last year, and we're in business.
Just be sure, a new stator will be installed in this one before it is assembled. After being media-blasted, stamped and sprayed with clear coat, it looks really good. With new components it should work just as well as it looks.
