It's complicated
Continuing work on the headlight assembly included painting the headlight door acid green to match the birdcage. With a heatwave upon us here, painting had to be done at dawn or dusk to avoid the high temperatures of the day ruining the paint.
Insects are really bad at dusk and several ended up in the paint. A razor blade took care of that for the most part, but from now until this heat breaks, it might be safer to paint in the early morning.
The manganese phosphate solution came in earlier in the week, allowing a bunch of parts to be Parkerized black. A large slow cooker was purchased second-hand for this.
This is a new process and the results were not as good as with the Parkerizing with the zinc phosphate concentrate. There were parts that ended up with white salts on them, so clearly the cleaning process is very important with this process.
The headlight assemblies are turning out to be as complicated as they appeared to be from the start. In addition to two colors and two lusters of paint, gray and black Parkerizing, this assembly will require two parts to be painted body color before they can be fully assembled. As mentioned earlier, a kit of wearing parts also has to be ordered as well.
