Parkerizing

This accelerator cable bracket was originally gray zinc phosphate coated. This part has long been discontinued and the replacement parts don't have the correct stampings. Once a used bracket was found, it was time to learn how to replicate the coating, commonly referred to as Parkerizing.

The Parkerizing solution requires it to be applied at 190 degrees, so a trip to the Salvation Army Store for a $4 small slow cooker was in order.

After boiling off any oil that had been absorbed by the metal, this was media-blasted and suspended in the solution for 10 minutes. Once it was coated, the part was covered in a displacement oil and cleaned.

This looks amazing.
